This week on Tub Talks podcast we’re talking with Niia Rocco, a multi-faceted singer-songwriter full of artistry, humor, wisdom and a god-given voice. She became a close friend of Secular Sabbath after recording with us for a livestream during the early days of the pandemic. Since then, we have featured Niia at many Secular Sabbath experiences, soaking our bodies and minds in her angelic voice and ethereal sound bowls. 

In this whimsical, honest conversation about Niia’s lifelong relationship to making music, we cover all bases from what it takes to make music professionally, to a secret love of musicals, navigating romantic and familial relationships, and the creative process of writing her latest album. Niia opens up about the trials and tribulations of harnessing creativity, having been classically trained in jazz by her Italian family, and integrating her musical history with the woman she has become now. As she watches and witnesses herself grow as an artist, Niia reveals how the discovery of ambient music has become a new form of judgment-free self-expression as she expands from her contemporary sound of jazz-meets-pop. 

A common thread that continues to come back to us throughout our conversation is the impact of our upbringings. We explore how they can either help or hinder our view of ourselves and the way in which these pillars that shaped our lives, and define how we choose to move through our individual creative journeys to grow as artists and people.
